Papaver Vert, which means green poppy in French, is a small felting company based in Oakland, Ca. A friend of mine Patty Benson who has a passion for all things felt and knit founded it. I was able to help her business flourish by designing a solid identity to attack customers. With this identity in one year she’s been able to gain momentum within stores across the country and with the help of Small Tree Studio has gain a web presence.

William Sonoma January 6, 2009

Filed under: William Sonoma — jillianclark @ 2:40 am

A few months ago I had the opportunity to pitch some design ideas of Pasta and Salsa for William Sonoma’s packaging department.
Although none of my designs were chosen I felt they’re worth showing as inspiration for future projects. In Keeping with the
William Sonoma customer I chose to approach each design from a traditional, whimsical and modern perspective.

Bare Escentuals January 6, 2009

At Bare Escentuals, a mineral based make up company in San Francisco, I’ve had the opportunity to work on many levels
of photography to capture the imagination of the kit concept. From beauty shots to imagining make up as sweet chocolates
there is no limit to our creative imagination.

The Get Started Eyes, Cheeks, Lips package allows women to apply makeup base on their individual skin tone.
Women fell in love with this product, we launched in February and were completely sold out by May.

This is a fun on-the-go lip palette package. Your able to mix colors to create a look that’s all your own. The box is
formfitting to the palette yet has a sleeve that opens to educate customers on mixing their colors for the perfect look.

Sweet Decadence is a collection of rich eyecolors such as Chocolate Fondue, Red Velvet, Dulce de Leche and Tiramisu.
I captured the names of the eyecolors by taking a photograph that’s sure to tantalizing our customers senses.

Our In Fashion kit is a Nordstrom exclusive, we wanted it to appeal their high fashion cliental. I created this
sophisticated silhouette for the cover and educated the customer about application tips on the back. By showing
the illustration holding the purse I also wanted to communicate the added value of the bag having a second use.

sew be it January 6, 2009

“sew be it” is my line of t-shirts inspired by different friends. The name reflects how the product is made by hand-stitching
them with vintage fabrics. I also wanted the name to have a little attitude and be inspiring. “sew be it”: so go be that person
that you want to be. The logo is clean and continuous to reflect the stitch and the bound you have with friends. The color
pallet is bright and at the top right corner each card has a saying; “be you”, “be inspired”, “be passionate” and “be stylish”.

I start my creative process by hand drawing each girl then bring them into illustrator. In illustrator I’m cleaning up the art
to get ready for the silk screen processes.

The t-shirt packaging reflects the concept of the illustrations by housing them in little black hat boxes. All illustration
are original. Each shirt is handmade and completely unique. This is of great value to the consumer knowing that she
is getting something that’s one of a kind.

The tags have each girl’s signature along with personalized care instructions. The tags reflect the girl’s different personality
such as demanda’s tag reads. “Pretty…Perfect. That’s demanda she’ll shop ‘til she drops. But I wouldn’t go droppin’ this
one in the dryer. Demand demands a gentle hand wash in cool water with soap. Hang to dry and she’ll stay pretty and
perfect longer.” This expresses the girls personality as well as giving the care instructions in an unusual way.

The Shores January 5, 2009

Hutner Group, a design firm based in San Francisco, hired me to design an identity for The Shores. Their a Real
Estate property in Marina Bay, California. I worked closely with the property manager to create an aesthetic that
marries the spa like ambiance of the community. The project included logo, stationary, brochure, signage, website
and interior of the sales office. You can view the website at www.theshoresca.com.

The whole property is nestled up against the beautiful California Bay. We captured the essence with a cover to
cover photo of the bay housed in a frosted vellum casing. The package allows potential owners to slip more
information into the sleeve as they walk about the property. We combined stock images and actual shots of
the property to capture our spa ambiance. The book is a french fold with pocket in the back that contains floor
and site drawings of the space.

Old Navy January 5, 2009

Through Fashion Labeling and Packaging, I work with Vendors and Product Designers on techniques that will elevate their
product. In order to be keep up with trends in the market place I’ve hosted Trend Presentations for each season to show what
the competitors are doing and how it translates to our business motto. This presentation is for the Mens Fall 2007 military
inspired product line. First, we created a mood board to express fabric, technique and type direction. Then the lower half of
the board reflects ideas for Hangtags and Labeling Systems.

This is the bottom half of the presentation board that reflects concepts for the Military direction. We looked at different
backing options, tea stained treatments and layered printing for that rugged look. We also printed these concepts on canvas
and self fabrics.

For Fall 2007, the Mens team need to revitalize their Denim packaging. We created a presentation that’s inspired by vintage railroad
tickets and old cigar boxes. The worn quality of the inspiration reflected the emotion behind the product.

This design immediately resonated with the design teams. It evokes the emotion of the product without being quiche and still reads
Old Navy. The right concept will be displayed this Fall on all Core Men’s Denim. This whole design has influenced other elements
of Mens packaging and signage throughout the store.

Lee Authentics January 5, 2009

lee-authentics

Lee Authentics is a high-end line of denim inspired by Lee’s history. These are different t-shirt graphics that were created as
promotions product. I utilized their archive to create illustrations that reflected Lee’s past but have a modern appeal.

I collaborated with the merchandising designer to design a trade show booth for Magic that would reflect Lee’s past. We created
a loft-like space with brick and rusted panels that would make the denim pop. We also wanted to reflect the long history of the
Lee Company as being a mercantile business. This allowed the product team to engage the audience. We recreated all the archive
pieces by tea staining paper with the old logos and finding old crates to apply the logos too. This was the first time Lee had done
this and it was a great way to reintroduce the brand to the market.

This brochure was created for Urban Outfitters. They needed a tool to explain Lee’s new product line and their history. The book
contains shots of product, a diagram of the features and is hand stitched. The piece went over so well that now it is being used as
a PR tool for magazine editors and for Lee’s new e-commerce site to inform the consumer about the product.

This logo was created for a new line of vintage inspired product for the junior line. The logo needed to feel feminine
and express that Lee has been around for over 100 years.

When beginning a new project I find inspiration by doing research first then exploring freely without limitations. This piece
was created while researching the new men’s heritage line. The line contained features that reflected Lee Jeans from the past
so choose to focus on a printing style from the past. Letterpress. To create the hand quality we wanted we choose to use a fabric
tag stitched under the leather patch. We also searched the archives and used old illustrations to show the different features that
are inspired by Lee’s past.
